S3 Satcom’s Remote Monitor and Control software has been designed specifically to meet the needs of satellite earth station operators around the world. It permits operators to have full control of one or many earth stations from anywhere in the world. In today’s pressured operational environment simplicity is essential, and so the software has been designed to present information in an intuitive fashion using familiar tools, either via a standard CRT display/keyboard/mouse or on a touch screen (which significantly reduces clutter on the control desk). The graphical interface presents information in a familiar “system diagram” fashion. To reach a particular alarm or parameter the operator simply “drills down” through the equipment icons (in the case of an alarm – simply click the flashing icon.
The architecture is “Client-Server” based. i.e. in each earth station there is a “Supervisor” (or server) computer whose task is to continuously monitor the status of all the equipment. The “client” (or Workstation) software obtains the status of one or more earth stations from the appropriate “Supervisor” computer(s) and then displays this graphically to the user. The two pieces of software (server and client) can reside on the same computer, or may be run on separate computers. A single Client computer can be simultaneously connected to almost any number of “Supervisors” – allowing control over many earth stations from the Client Workstation. Similarly a “Supervisor” can be simultaneously connected to many Client Workstations – allowing multiple operators access to the system, from collocated or geographically separate locations. The “Supervisor” software can communicate with almost any satellite equipment that has a remote control interface.
Operating System: Windows 2000 or XP
Touch Screen support: Built-in
Equipment interfaces: Serial (RS232/422/485), TCP/IP (Ethernet), Parallel (relays, opto-isolators etc), GPIB, Maximum I/O ports: Unlimited
Password Control: 5 levels of password – ranging from Administrator (total privilege) to View Only (cannot change anything). User can set the password level required on a parameter-by-parameter basis.
Event logging: Full event logging – logs the event, with date & time, earth station, equipment source, and the operator and Client Workstation that commanded it. Daily event logs
User can configure every individual parameter’s event logging to:
Log all changes
Log out of range
Log at timed intervals
User can add comments to the log
Alarm Capability: Audible Summary Alarm
User can configure every individual parameter to:
Disable Alarms
Alarm changes as Major or Minor
Alarm out of range values as Major or Minor
